With this project, Tüpraş has achieved an energy saving equivalent to annual natural gas consumption of 39,000 houses in total, in a year.
The efforts of Tüpraş in energy efficiency continue to be crowned with awards. Tüpraş İzmir Refinery is awarded with the first prize in “Large Scale Enterprises” category of the Energy Efficiency Awards, organized by Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), with its U-7000 Crude Oil Revamp Project. Arda Yıldırım, Manager of Tüpraş İzmir Refinery, received the award from Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of Board of Directors of ISO.
Arda Yıldırım, Manager of Tüpraş Izmir Refinery, said; “As Tüpraş we are working to minimize our impacts while decreasing energy intensity and reducing costs in refineries. Four years ago, we started our efforts to increase the efficiency, safety and reliability of U-7000 Crude Oil Unit, which has the highest crude oil capacity in our country by being capable to process approximately 18 percent of crude oil capacity of Turkey. After 24 months of renewal and modernization process, we have not only increased sustainable capacity of the unit, but also managed to make its technology more reliable and efficient. When the project is commissioned, we reduced energy consumption of U-7000 Crude Oil Unit by 34 Gcal/hour and achieved 2 percent increase in the unit’s efficiency.”
Since its date of commission in April 2018, we saved approximately 300 thousand Gcal energy per year with this project, which is equivalent of annual natural gas consumption of 39.000 houses. Additionally, we prevented the release of approximately 95 thousand tons/year CO2 to the atmosphere by saving such amount of energy.
